i went about painting my intake manifold and cam box and like everything ive touched this summer, its not gone without issue.

when the paint went on it looked a little "flat". i originally thought it was due to being on a cast part. after everything dried it looks and feels like the paint went on dry (oops)

the real problem is, it actually looks pretty decent. it took the edge off the gloss and the two parts pull it off real well.

do you thing there will be issues with it adhering long term? i am really debating leaving it this way :)

i was too far away and got a "dry spray" (ie the paint was drying in the air before it got to the part)

i did a test part saturday and learned the paint i had would run very quickly. but the part i painted turned out great. i used the same technique on the parts i painted this week, but did did not go as well (i think it was the higher temp that caused it)

That engine enamel does run very easily and has very good adhering qualities. What I've always done with painting parts like that without using a primer coat was to lay on 2-3 light (dry) coats to get the paint to settle and stick and then lay on a medium (wet) coat to even out the gloss finish. As far as adhering you won't have any issue as long as the underneath was prepped correctly. I've used engine paint without a primer undercoat many times and haven't had any issues with it chipping or peeling. The only time I noticed this happening was on Grace's oil pan where it had a couple small rocks hit it. Other than that the shit holds up extremely well.

I'd say if you like it and it's durable, leave it. If it's a pain to pull the part back off to re-paint, strip it down now and respray it.

i THINK it may be durable but i dont want to test it too much. its got a primer coat on 4 light dry coats on it.

it wouldnt be a huge deal to pull it off later but i boult have to buy several new seals and take off the timing belt. i think i may just gamble and leave it...

i am currently sanding off the Porsche lettering to polish and its taking a while to get it off

powder coating is the best way to go

i took your advice. today i hit the parts in question with a fine scotch brite pad and two "wet coats"

thanks. the wheels need sandblasted badly...

the wheels are the stock dials off my car. the bottom horizontal round tube is the oem sway bar and the diagonal supports are the rear torsion bars cut in half.

the other two wheels hold up end tables and i also have a tv stand adorned with the oem coils.

i drew the prints for everything and then had them manufactured by Co-Line/Goalsetter (same square tubing and black paint as the basketball hoops)
