So I picked up the new Nine Inch Nails CD Year Zero this past Tuesday. Overall I like it, it is very "electronic" (as they always have been). The thing that really stands out to me is that the entire album can really only be taken as a whole, there really aren't any stand out songs. I have probably listened to the whole thing 4 times straight through and probably couldn't tell you the real title of any song if you played just one (other than Survivalism). As a whole it works, take any one song out and it probably isn't as good on its own.

Another thing is you really have to listen to it on a decent stereo system to hear all the subtleties in the music, lots going on in one channel that isn't in the other. This album has a "dirtier" electronic sound than Pretty Hate Machine, although the lyrics are more interesting than those on PHM. The album has an interesting concept behind it, its more political than any other NIN album (although Trent has a way with words that keeps it pretty interesting), but overall its a decent album. I would give it 7.5 out of 10.

Nice review, sir. I may have to check it out sometime with the stellar sound system in the Mk3, lol.

If you have Directv you should check their concert out on channel 101..it is free. I have it recorded on my HD DVR unit. The set they had was killer!

NIN seems to be hit or miss for me, i liked their last album but a couple of the songs got way over played on fm/xm
